

Amanda
McPherson Shafton is the Lead Midwife for Allegheny Health Network in
Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania providing full-scope midwifery care at Jefferson
Hospital, part of Allegheny Health Network. She received her Masters of Science
in Nursing at Marquette University. She completed a midwifery fellowship at The
Midwife Center for Birth and Women's Health and has experience with both in and
out-of-hospital birth. Amanda is President of the Pennsylvania Affiliate of the
American College of Nurse-Midwives (PA-ACNM) advocating for midwives in
Pennsylvania and throughout the United States. She is an Executive Doctor of
Nursing Practice (DNP) student at Johns Hopkins University. Her area of
interest examines provider implicit bias and the effects of those biases on maternal
and infant healthcare disparities for Black patients. She will graduate in May
2020.
